Our school has a high expectation of attendance in school in line with statutory regulation. The school tackles persistent absence rigorously and uses outside agencies to support in getting children into school when they have low attendance.
If your child is absent from school for any reason, please inform the school office as soon as possible to let them know the reasons for the absence. If your child has been sick or has had diarrhoea, they should be kept off school for a period of 48hrs after the last occurrence.
We contact parents on the first day of absence from school. Whilst we accept that children can be unwell and unable to attend school, we reserve the right to ask for evidence of doctor’s visits, dentists’ visits and actual illness in cases where pupils have repeated absence from school. Our aim is to work closely with families to ensure that all children have the best possible chance to be in school and to succeed.
It is rare for the school to grant planned absence in term time. In exceptional circumstance, the discretion of the Headteacher can be used to authorise absence from school. All parents should complete a form and will be then informed of the outcome as to whether the absence will be authorised or unauthorised. Sometimes, this will require a meeting with the Headteacher.
The school also follows the Local Authority guidance for penalty notices. You can visit the North Somerset website for more information.
