Dear Parents and Carers,
On behalf of the children, staff and governors of St Joseph’s Primary School, I would like to extend a warm welcome to all visitors to our website, whether you are an existing parent seeking the latest information or a prospective parent choosing a school for your child. It is updated regularly with the latest school news, calendar dates, newsletters, curriculum matters and children’s class pages and we hope that it provides an insight into our busy but very friendly school.
Our mission statement encapsulates our friendly and caring family environment; 'we are an inclusive, vibrant, catholic community where we encourage everyone to share a love of learning and a love of Christ. Together we hope to inspire ourselves and each other to be the best we can and to embrace our future with confidence'.
St Joseph’s is a one form entry Catholic School in Portishead, the current school building is a modern and airy new build, but St Joseph’s has been serving the community of Portishead for over 100 years from the convent of St Joseph’s which was situated on West Hill. It has around 210 pupils arranged in seven classes who are supported by a dedicated, experienced, highly skilled team of teachers and enthusiastic support staff. They strive to raise standards and promote a calm, purposeful but stimulating environment which makes learning exciting and enjoyable through a creative, innovative curriculum.
‘Leaders and teachers have established a caring ethos in the school which has resulted in a safe, nurturing environment’ OFSTED March 2016.
St Joseph’s offers plenty of space outdoors to learn and play, with a large playground, extensive playing fields and a conservation area with pond. Indoors, there are spacious, airy classrooms, a fully stocked library and an ICT suite.
St Joseph’s has an excellent academic reputation, as highlighted in the recent OFSTED Inspection report and staff have high expectations and high aspirations for all our children.
Although our website is very comprehensive, there is nothing better than a visit to the school to see the children and staff in action. I am very proud to be Head teacher of this wonderful primary school and would be delighted to show you around. Please make an appointment through the school office.
Mrs E Jackson
